What Is Static Electricity Damage? What Electrostatic Countermeasures Should Be Taken?

Share:
Static electricity is one of the causes of mechanical stoppages, defective products and other failures in the manufacturing site.

For the electronics industry with high precision, electrostatic damage will also bring a series of effects. I will share with you the related contents of electrostatic damage in the electronics industry today.

The so-called electrostatic damage is one of the obstacles caused by electrostatic discharge (ESD), Semiconductor (IC, FET, high-frequency devices, etc.) components are very sensitive and are more susceptible to electrostatic damage.The main impacts are:

For the semiconductor industry:
It will destroy the integrated circuit, deteriorate its characteristics, cause soft damage, increase the bad after shipment, etc..

For the liquid crystal industry:
It will cause damage to liquid crystals, transistors, etc.;

For the electronic equipment industry:
It can damage the device, causing equipment malfunction and stop the action in serious cases etc.;

So, what causes electrostatic damage?
1.Operators (discharge from person to device)
Electrostatic hands touch the metal leads of the components, causing the components to be charged.
When the device is grounded, electrostatic discharge is triggered, and the discharge current circulates in the loop, resulting in electrostatic damage.

2.Equipment Serious(discharge from equipment to device )
Metal device with static electricity touches the lead of a component, causing the component to be charged.
When the device is grounded, the discharge current circulates in the loop, resulting in electrostatic damage.

3.Semiconductor devices (damage caused by charged components)
The components themselves carry electrostatic charges, which cause electrostatic discharge when their leads are grounded.
Example: Due to static damage, triggering the line bridge.
For general wiring materials, the melting point of aluminum is 660°C and that of copper is 1083°C.
At the moment of electrostatic discharge, electric heating damage occurs on the line, and the temperature can reach 3000℃.

The temperature exceeds the melting point of copper or aluminum for the line to melt and causing a short circuit or break in the bridge, resulting in equipment failure.

In addition to the above three factors, the increasing miniaturization and thinness of products is also an important reason for electric field induction and electrostatic discharge induction.

In response to the above static electricity damage, the general anti-static countermeasure taken is to manage the static voltage value of electronic parts to be less than 100V.

Insulators can use electrostatic eliminators to neutralize static electricity, through the tip of high voltage corona discharge to ionize the air into a large number of positive and negative ions, and can use the air flow to transport the positive and negative ions to the surface of the object, so as to achieve electrostatic neutralization.

Common electrostatic eliminators are: ion rod, ion fan and so on.

Shanghai Anping Static Technology Co., Ltd. provides electrostatic analysis, intelligent monitoring and electrostatic elimination solutions.
