How to evaluate the performance of electrostatic removal equipment?

Firstly,Is static electricity elimination same as removing static electricity?
No, it's different. Static electricity often occurs the imbalance of positive and negative electric charge on the object surface.

Static electricity elimination refers to neutralize the imbalance of positive and negative charges, so that it does not show electricity.

How to eliminate static electricity from electric conductors and electrostatic dissipators?
Charge can flow in an electric conductor or electrostatic dissipative body, so it can be eliminated by grounding. Therefore, Grounding is applied to mechanical equipments, operation personnel, operation stations for static elimination.
Common grounding measures include wrist straps, conductive boots, and conductive pads.


How does an insulator eliminate static electricity?

The charge cannot flow on the insulator, so grounding cannot eliminate the static electricity on the insulator. Therere three common ways to eliminate static electricity from insulators:

A.Use antistatic agents:

The antistatic spray can be sprayed on the surface of the insulator to form a surface conductive film and dissipate the static charge.



It is noted that the anti-static effect is of short duration so antistatic agent causing rust, deterioration, corrosion and other problems should be also considered.

B.
Humidity management:

When the object is in a relatively high humidity environment, a large number of water molecules and impurities will be attached to the surface, and the surface of the object will be conductive. In this case, grounding can effectively release static electricity.

It should be noted that objects in high humidity environment may occur condensation, rust, mildew, causing adverse effects on the object or equipment. In addition, large-scale humidity management will also increase production costs.

C.The Use Of Static Eliminators:

Electrostatic eliminator consists of high voltage power supply and discharge device,A large number of positive and negative ions are created by air ionized through the tip of high voltage corona discharge and transported to the surface of the object to neutralize static electricity, or making electrostatic eliminators close to the surface of the object for electrostatic neutralization. 

Most main products : ion bar, ion fan, ion air gun, ionizing snake, ion air nozzle and so on. They can be applied to many industries, such as electronics, printing, packaging, textile, semiconductors, medical equipments, and plastic film.

There’re many kinds of electrostatic eliminators in different brands. Then, how to evaluate the performance of an electrostatic eliminator?

It can be considered from two dimensions of decharging time and ion equilibrium.

Decharging time:
The time
is referred by reducing the electrostatic potential on a charged body (charging pad monitor) to a set percentage of the starting value (usually by 10%).

For example, the time required for the voltage from ±1000V to ±100V on the charging board monitor.

Ion balance: The voltage value at a certain position measured by the charging panel monitor under the normal operation of the electrostatic eliminator.

It should be noted as below:
1.
If the ion balance is not good, it may aggravate the electrostatic damage of the object.

2.Decharging time is not the sooner the better and should be judged according to the object.
